RVA Aphasia Group

The RVA Aphasia Group is a collection of people living with aphasia. We are here to help persons with aphasia to communicate, to locate information, to find interesting things to do and to get better. We are here to help families, friends and professionals to understand what aphasia is like and to assist in the recovery. And, we are here to help those with aphasia and those without to understand each other.  Visit Events or Resources or for more information, Contact Us.

Our Mission

a·pha·sia [uh-fey-zhuh]

An impairment of language, affecting the production or comprehension of speech and the ability to read or write. Aphasia is variable; different people with aphasia display different strengths and weaknesses in communication skills. Aphasia is caused by injury to the brain--most commonly from a stroke. Aphasia does not affect intelligence. Some people recover many of their language abilities over time.
